Here's Why Tesla Cybertruck Towing A Ford F-150 Is Meaningless
A tale of physics, electric trucks, and why tug of war doesn't matter.

During the Tesla Cybertruck reveal Elon Musk showed the world that the Cybertruck can pull a Ford F-150, uphill! At initial glance, you might think wow, that's an impressive feat. Surely the Tesla's electric torque helps it rip the F-150 in this battle of "who's got the bigger driveshaft?" Unfortunately, physics informs us these kind of demonstrations are entirely pointless.
We'll discuss the actual wheel torque of the Tesla Cybertruck as well as the Ford F-150, we'll look into both vehicles weights, and we'll analyze the video to determine if the Ford is RWD or 4WD. Ultimately, we'll all land on the conclusion that everything we witnessed was pointless. That's the story of life. Enjoy!

This video is the answer to every vehicle tug-of-war video ever. It's always about the grip and weight. It's never about the engine power or torque.

Actually its the controller of the torque that would make a difference. 4wd Trucks do NOT put equal force on all wheels, the gears have to be locked. The difference with a Tesla truck is all the wheels can drive, and can be more easily managed by a computer. With a regular truck all the scenarios of traction control have to be programmed, and are slow to switch from mode one to another. So even if both trucks hypothetically could put the same force to each wheel, its the one that is managing the force better that will win, and the one that loses traction and momentum first will lose.

Hi Jason, Interesting, but you used worthless US measurements that are irrelevant in the rest of the world. I know British imperial measurements but US measurements don't match up. Remember, you are posting on NO-vid so I suggest you make metric relevant. You've done that previously so keep it up.

The reason the Ford lost is because he lost traction, notice his tires spinning? The second you lose traction in a tug of war youre done because they can pull you while you're spinning.

At least DeLorean waited until after he had designed his car before he hit the coke! This thing looks ridiculous! So disappointing to finally see!

Jason, bro, very cool factual and thoroughly explained video. Thank you. Your videos are always very straight forward and informative.

Truck guys: it won bc its heavier vs 2x4. We learned that at 17 yr old. Tesla sheeple: need actual scientist to explain it b4 they stop bragging

The Tesla truck is aimed at the suburban weekend warrior that is on his was to Lowe's to buy home improvement products to screw up their house... and I'm fine with that, it's a start.

That Tesla truck looks like the distant future grandson of the Monopoly game car.

If they wanted to sell a pickup they should have made it look like a regular pickup. Most people that want a pickup are not to same type of people that are interested in Teslas.

I promise the F150 tranny is damaged somehow after that pull It comes with defects built in and does not take beatings without $$$

Exactly, can we analyze the Stainless steel body weight and also the crumple zones without an inner chassis?

First I have a f150 they turned the traction control off won't spin like that if on second let me try this test with my truck see who pulls whom

That demo was bait for Ford, pure and simple. Their response, and eventual backing down was a show of weakness and it played directly in Tesla's favor.
We are not Your kind
This is just me and my dumbass. Shouldn’t it be less weight since it’s electric? Wasn’t that part of the point of it

"this is a pointless demonstration because the Tesla is more powerful." Yeah, but the entire point of the demo was that the Tesla IS in fact, more powerful.

i dont care what anyone says i think it looks cool af. futuristic but somehow retro at the same time
terenfro1975 19 hours ago
The first tire to break static friction loses. Just saying. If you watch the video. They allowed the Tesla to pull the slack out. When the slack jerked the F150, the driver of it hit the gas and immediately spun his tires. Static coefficient is higher than kinetic coefficient friction. Pull tests should never be done this way because of one driver putting the other in a direct disadvantage according to their technique. BTW, true scientist don't use pounds.

one thing to point out. if you tie the tow cable HIGHER on the tesla, then what happens is that when the rope gets tension, it will try to lift the allready light rear of the ford, making it near impossible for it to grip at all.
